چکیده

Measuring icing load and icing rate are important parameters for an atmospheric icing sensor. A new icing sensor has recently been designed and developed at Narvik University College for measuring atmospheric icing rate, icing load and icing type. Unlike the existing atmospheric icing sensors commercially available in market, which uses the axial loading for measuring icing load and icing rate, this new sensory system measures icing load and icing rate using the torque loading physics. The performance of this new icing sensor has been tested and validated at cryospheric environment simulator Japan. This research work focus upon the lab based experimentation and evaluation of axial loading and torque loading sensory physics during an icing event. Results show a significant performance difference between torque and axial loading physics for atmospheric icing sensors. Copyright © 2015 IFSA Publishing, S. L.

Multivariable Time Series Prediction for the Icing Process on Overhead Power Transmission Line

The design of monitoring and predictive alarm systems is necessary for successful overhead power transmission line icing. Given the characteristics of complexity, nonlinearity, and fitfulness in the line icing process, a model based on a multivariable time series is presented here to predict the icing load of a transmission line. In this model, the time effects of micrometeorology parameters fo...

Biodegradation of De-icing Com- Pounds in Columns Simulating a Range of Natural Conditions

The determination of the fate of aircraft de-icing fluids in near runway soils is important in evaluating environmental impacts and in the design of treatment system. The effect of biodegradation of the primary component of de-icing fluids, propylene glycol (PG), was tested in waters-saturated sand columns. Biogrowth significantly reduced the hydraulic conductivity of the sand. This change in h...

High-Speed Imaging to Quantify Transient Ice Accretion Process over an Airfoil

Ice accretion on aircraft wings poses a performance and safety threat as aircraft encounter supercooled droplets suspended in the cloud layer. The details of the ice accretion depend on the atmospheric conditions and the flight parameters. The icing process on the wing consists of a complex interaction of water deposition, surface water transport, and freezing. The aerodynamics affect the water...
